Writing requires inspiration.  For that, you need a playground.

Work to Play: Create & Fuel Inspiration by Dressing the Part.

No matter what you’re writing about, inspiration is a necessary ingredient. I have found that dressing up like the main character of my stories helps me really let the story unfold.  It accelerates my imagination and my writing.   For example, if you write erotica; would it be more inspiring after a short trip to your local lingerie store?  Should you be wearing something really spicy while you write?  That would at least be a lot of fun.

What if you’re writing about someone famous like Vincent Price.  Would it help to go to a costume store and buy a Vincent Price mask?  It just might.  Or it just might make you laugh so hard that you cannot type.  Nonetheless, it would help you imagine walking in his shoes.

What about crime thriller fiction?  What costumes would you wear?  Are you the villain or the super detective-cop? Maybe you'd be in the military.  This would be a great costume.

Dressing up the characters is also important.  It gives each scene more depth and makes the characters more real.  So, fill up that closet  with great clothes for each character and their parts.

Enjoying your work makes it better.  Give it a try and let your imagination run wild!
